Clinical trials are the best way to invest in your brand and give your customers the information they actually care about (read more about what consumers think of clinical trials, here.) Creating scientifically-backed health claims lets your customers know they can trust your product and all of the ingredients in it. In skincare, transparency about ingredients and how they work “in-action” is vital.
Skincare clinical testing gives potential customers clarity about products that will impact a crucial part of their appearance and health --their skin!
Skincare clinical research is also a lot simpler than you might think -- if you’re not sure where to start, you can check out our overview of the different clinical trial study designs available to evaluate skincare and supplements, here.
One great example of skincare clinical trials in action is the all-natural, all vegan, Pai skincare.
Disclaimer: We have not worked with Pai on any of their research. We are big fans of their work and our goal is to showcase in this post how Pai uses clinical trials to their advantage.
Natural, clean skincare products have been all the rage in recent years. Pai satisfies this niche with plant-based, cruelty-free products. Their skincare line focuses on botanicals and naturally derived ingredients that have been proven to work -- and they’ve got the clinical research to prove it.
Pai has an entire page dedicated to clinical research on their products. They consciously pull out each active ingredient and describe how they have performed in skincare clinical trials. For their serums, the Pai team has highlighted their Copaiba complex as a solution to blemishes. Their research found that using Copaiba and zinc in their serum each day for 8 weeks resulted in 72% of people experiencing fewer blemishes and 65% experiencing less sebum.
Similarly, they report a 90% success rate from their serum-containing Sea Aster and claim that 95% of users found it made their skin feel more comfortable.
These kinds of skincare claims can provide an impressive marketing tool for your products. They also give customers a tangible number to wrap their heads around how effective your ingredients are.
Pai’s clinical research seems to largely take the form of Consumer Perception studies, which are more accessible, more affordable, and faster to run than highly involved clinical trials (lucky for you!) To read more about affordable options and Consumer Perceptions studies, go here.
