Best sunscreens for every budget

When it comes to SPF, finding the right fit for your skin type, budget, and preferences can be challenging. It is vital to protect your skin with a good SPF every day, which is why we’ve rounded up some of the best options available at every price point.

How high of an SPF do I need?

You should be applying at least SPF 30 to your face each day, though an SPF of 50 is slightly more protective if you can find one you like. An SPF of 30 offers you protection from about 96.7% of UVB rays, while SPF of 50 bumps that number up to 98% of UVB rays. Anything higher than 50 offers only marginal protection increases, even SPF 100 may only increase protection up to 99%.

Budget Option

If you’re looking for a daily SPF that won’t break the bank, look no further than your local drugstore. Neutrogena in particular has some great affordable options for face and body.

The Neutrogena hydro-boost offers dry shield protection and a non-greasy formula and comes in at around$8-10. You can also get the ultra-sheer dry touch formula for the same price, which may be a better option for oilier complexions.

Mid-range Option

There are several daily sunscreens that are targeted specifically for multi-step skincare routines in the mid-range budget, and one of the best-reviewed is the La Roche-Posaysun cream mist. This lightweight spray can be applied easily even on the beach, without worrying about white streaks or sand-based exfoliation treatment. Plus, since it’s a spray you can use it to reapply even on days when you’re wearing makeup.

Fenty skincare, run by Rhianna, also offers a few sunscreens that have rave reviews. Check out the Hydra Vizor invisible moisture sunscreen with an SPF of 30 for a go-to daily option that lays well under makeup. These sunscreens will cost between $15-25 but may be a better option if you tend to wear foundation or base makeup most days.

High-End Option

If you’re looking to splurge more on daily sunscreen, it’s hard to go wrong with Dermalogica. Their powerbright moisturizer with SPF 50 offers high protection and a healthy dose of plumping moisture to improve the appearance of your skin while protecting you from dark spots and other sun damage. The price tag is higher, ranging from $70-80 depending on where you buy it, but the mass amount of five-star reviews suggest it may be worth it for those seeking a more luxurious option.
